Sofija Jovic, PhD, MBA
Chief Executive Officer

Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sofija Jovic, leads the long-term strategic direction of the company and oversees its development, both in terms of expansion of operational and scientific capabilities and the increase in company’s visibility and impact in the industry. Her focus is to position ProPhase as the thought leader in using measurement science to transform clinical trials, with a particular emphasis on improving outcomes for all stakeholders: research sponsors, investigators, as well as patients and caregivers.

In her previous role of President and Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Jovic guided the company through its transformation from a four-person start-up to a global industry leader in providing expert measurement services to the pharmaceutical industry. During this time, ProPhase experienced an exponential growth in market share, with increased depth and breadth of services offered. In collaboration with Dr. Mark Opler, the former CEO and current CSO of the company, Dr. Jovic enabled this growth by developing a leadership team that grew with the company and focusing on enhancing competitive differentiators that sustain ProPhase’s high client loyalty.

Dr. Jovic started her career as a clinical psychologist: teaching, conducting research and providing testing and treatment at a variety of treatment settings. Dr. Jovic has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented scientific papers at professional and industry conferences. She is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA), The International Society for CNS Drug Development (ISCDD), The International Society for CNS Clinical Trials and Methodology (ISCTM), American Society for Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP) and is a founding member of CNS Summit.

Dr. Jovic earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University and her Master’s in Business Administration from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management.



Mark Opler, PhD, MPH
Chief Scientific Officer & Founder

Dr. Mark Opler serves as Chief Scientific Officer, managing and directing scientific research and development at ProPhase. Dr. Opler holds the titles of Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at New York University and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. His academic research focuses on the etiology, phenomenology, and treatment of serious and persistent mental disorders. He is also leading the development of the new upcoming edition of the PANSS Manual©.

Dr. Opler is a former “NARSAD Young Investigator” recipient and has recently completed a 5-year research grant from the US NIH to establish an international cohort in Finland to investigate the role of paternal reproductive health in the onset of mental disorders. He has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to multiple book chapters and review articles on schizophrenia and mental health research. He received his BSc at SUNY Stony Brook and his MPH and PhD from Columbia University. He is also a graduate of the Psychiatric Epidemiology Training Program at Columbia University and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship at the New York State Psychiatric Institute.



Kris Kuhner
Vice President of Business Development

Kris Kuhner is the Vice President of Business Development at ProPhase. Kris holds over 14 years of industry experience in the pharmaceutical and clinical research industries.

Prior to joining ProPhase, Kris held various positions on both the clinical operations and commercial sides of the business working for various powerhouses in the pharmaceutical industry. During this time he developed a deep background in drug development with a particular focus in CNS, oncology and cardiovascular.

In these previous positions Kris played a number of key roles developing new business and strategies for obtaining mutually beneficial large strategic partnerships while driving and exceeding annual growth.

Kris obtained his BS from Dickinson College in Biology.



Brian Rothman, PhD
Vice President of Clinical Services

As Vice President of Clinical Services, Dr. Rothman is responsible for the day-to-day development and maintenance of the organization’s scientific, clinical, and operational resources in support of training and calibration services on current and prospective projects.

Since joining the ProPhase team in 2010, Dr. Rothman has led training efforts for various clinical trial programs in many disease areas and has been a valuable contributor to psychometric research and scale development.

Dr. Rothman obtained his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University, Brooklyn and has trained in diverse clinical settings such as Mt. Sinai/Elmhurst Hospital Center, Bellevue Hospital’s Forensic Ward, and Beth Israel in New York City. He has provided treatment for mentally ill adults, adolescents, and children in inpatient and outpatient settings and is a licensed psychologist in New York State. Dr. Rothman also has a demonstrated interest in psychological testing and assessment, particularly with forensic populations and with severe psychopathology. He is also interested in the intersections between nutrition, lifestyle factors, and mental health and illness trajectories. He has published and presented work at multiple industry and academic conferences both domestically and internationally, focusing on psychometrics and assessment challenges.

Dr. Rothman is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychology at Columbia University, Teachers College.




Jennifer Lord-Bessen, PhD
Vice President of Clinical Data Sciences

As Vice President of Clinical Data Sciences, Dr. Lord-Bessen oversees ProPhase’s data management, statistics, and psychometric activities, including consultation on the development and validation of new Clinician-Reported and Patient-Reported Outcomes as well as the conversion of existing assessments to electronic format.

Dr. Lord-Bessen has over twenty years of experience in statistics and measurement. Prior to joining ProPhase in 2015, Jennifer was a Research Scientist in the field of educational assessment, leading the standard setting program for CTB/McGraw Hill Education.

Jennifer obtained an Ph.D. in Psychometrics and Quantitative Psychology from Fordham University and an M.A. in Educational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She completed a Predoctoral Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.



Cambron Henderson
Vice President of Corporate Services

Cambron Henderson oversees all facets of Prophase's Corporate Services department including quality assurance, risk management, human resources and technology.

Cambron brings more than sixteen years of management and leadership experience planning, optimizing and executing daily operational functions for professional services firms.

Prior to joining the ProPhase team, Cambron served as the Director of Operations for Jacobson Consulting Applications (JCA), a technology consulting firm providing services to nonprofits, ZOOM Marketing, a marketing firm specializing in positioning for high-tech organizations and The Princeton Review – Silicon Valley.

Preceding her current career, Cambron worked as an actress in the San Francisco Bay Area and was a founding member of Eastenders Repertory Company. She has a BFA in Theatre from the University of Texas at Austin.
